FAQ
How we grow, pack, and export Hass avocados from Mafinga, Iringa — Tanzania's Southern Highlands.
Products
We specialize in Hass—the variety known for creamy flesh, rich flavor, and a strong nutritional profile. Hass is the fruit we pack from orchard to crate, graded for consistent size, skin, and taste rather than mixed cultivars.
The orchard is in Mafinga, Iringa Region, Tanzania, in the Southern Highlands — Nyanda za Juu Kusini in Swahili. Postal address: MUSSGO Co. Ltd., P.O. Box 551, Mafinga. Highland altitude and volcanic soils are why we grow Hass here rather than on the coast or in the lowlands.
On our farm in Mafinga, Iringa Region, in Tanzania’s Southern Highlands (Nyanda za Juu Kusini). The highland altitude, well-drained volcanic soils, and distinct seasons are why we grow Hass here rather than on the coast or in the lowlands.
Elevation gives the trees the temperature range Hass needs to mature properly. Volcanic soils feed healthy roots, and we pick for flesh quality—creaminess, color, and few blemishes—not just volume. The result is fruit we pack to premium grade: even size and weight, sound skin, and consistent eating quality.
Regeneratively: we build soil with compost and cover crops, keep tillage light, irrigate with drip and harvested rainwater, and mulch to hold moisture. Pests are managed with habitat for beneficial insects and biological controls—not a chemical spray program. Native vegetation and pollinator areas stay in the orchard so the farm works as an ecosystem, not a monoculture strip.
We do not rely on harmful pesticides or a synthetic spray program. Integrated pest management, beneficial insects, and biological controls come first, with organic-based fertility. That is the same chemical-free approach we describe on our sustainability pages: protect the crop without stripping the soil or water.
We list Hass as available year-round, with harvest timed to the Southern Highlands’ seasons so fruit is picked at the right maturity—not forced. Volumes and the best shipping window still move with the grove. For a current pack-out or a specific week, message us on WhatsApp or email and we will tell you what is on the trees and in the crate.
Fruit is hand-picked with clippers, stems trimmed in the field, and moved in crates so it is not bruised on the way to grading. We sort for size, skin, and defects, then pack in protective, eco-minded crates ready for market. Quality checks run from picking through packing—the same orchard-to-crate path you see in our harvest photographs.
Yes. We work with distributors, retailers, and other buyers who want consistently graded Hass and a regenerative story they can stand behind. There is no website cart: share the volume, destination, and timing you have in mind. Email edwinmussche@live.nl and nicolausnovatus.nn@gmail.com. We reply during farm hours, Monday–Friday 8:00 AM–5:00 PM EAT and Saturday 9:00 AM–1:00 PM EAT.
Yes. We grow and pack premium Hass at our Mafinga packhouse for distributors and retailers who need fruit for East Africa and export programmes. We are a Tanzania avocado producer—not a freight forwarder—so logistics still depend on the buyer’s route, cold chain, and documents. Share destination and volume and we will discuss packing specs and how fruit leaves the farm.
Every crate is tied to regenerative work in Mafinga: soil that stores carbon, water used with drip and mulch, and habitat left for wildlife and pollinators. The harvest also employs local people at fair wages, trains neighboring farmers in these methods, and keeps value in the Southern Highlands instead of extracting from them. Quality and stewardship are the same job.
